Abstract

Pediculosis capitis (head lice) is a scalp infestation due to the parasite pediculus humanus capitis, most frequently occurred in children. Scalp or cervical pruritus is frequent, but sometimes occurs asymptomatically. Diagnosis is performed by visual examination. Different topical pediculicidal agents are available to treat pediculosis capitis, being permethrin 1.5% first-line treatment option used in our setting. Children with pediculosis capitis do not need to be excluded from school. Household members and close contacts should be examined for infestation.
