Abstract

Introduction. The process of donation and transplantation is one more hospital medical activity, which takes place within the Specialized Health Care. It is a multidisciplinary activity that requires the direct participation of a good number of professionals and specialists of all kinds. In this process the nursing plays a fundamental role for the detection and maintenance of the organ donor.

Description. The management of nursing care to a potential donor, given their situation of brain death, cannot be performed according to the different models and theories of nursing, since these are aimed at recovering the independence and autonomy of the patient. Given the special circumstances of the clinically dead patient, we will use the Complejo Asistencial Universitario de León Standard Organ Donation Care Plan. Therefore, nursing care related to the most important alterations that we are going to find and some activities that depend on them will be considered. It is important to emphasize the role of nursing in the emotional care of the patient's family, proposing the standard care that we find in the NANDA-NIC-NOC related to the grieving process of the family.

Conclusions. The possibility of working with a standardized care plan allows nurses to perform in an organized, unified and systematic manner, increasing the effectiveness and quality of care and thus improving the state of organs at the time of transplantation. Nursing Care,
