specialties for everyone or not?

  • Daniel Fernández García

Abstract

Why were specialties developed in Spain via EIR when in no country in Europe or in the world are specialty nurses carried out in this way? Why does the university have nothing to do with the training of specialists? Why have only 6 specialties been developed? What is the specialty of Geriatric or Pediatric Nursing that does not have a possible specialty of Cardiological, Oncological or Surgical Nursing? Why can't a nurse who works in intensive care or one who works in the emergency department opt for one specialty? Are some better than others? Are specialist nurses by exceptional route worse than by EIR or better than those who meet criteria and can't opt for the exceptional route? If we follow the medical model, why aren't nursing specialties developed in the same way? Does being a specialist assure you greater competences?
