EXPLORATORY SYSTEMATIC REVIEW ON NON-ACCIDENTAL INJURIES IN CHILDHOOD IN SPAIN
Abstract
Injuries are one of the leading causes of child death in the world, accounting for 40% of child deaths in highincome countries. In Europe, it is the leading cause of death in children and adolescents between 5 and 19 years of age. The aim has been to carry out a review of the literature with the purpose of updating the information available on the prevalence of injuries and accidents in the child population, in the national territory. The databases have been consulted: Cochrane, Pubmed, CINAHL, Cuiden, Lilacs with a time limit of 10 years and texts in Spanish and English. In addition, both the latest Spanish National Health Survey (ENSE), as well as the websites of the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare and the different Health Councils have been explored. The information available on the portals of the main Scientific Societies in the pediatric field was reviewed. The most up-to-date information comes from official sources (ENSE). A decrease has been observed in the last 15 years, although accidents continue to be one of the most important causes of infant mortality and morbidity in Spain. Some aspects are proposed to consider since the ignorance of the prevalence and of the factors associated with injuries and accidents in childhood, hinders the development and implementation of strategies for their prevention: unification of accident typologies and age groups, enhance the visibility by official bodies, carry out studies that show more global and updated information.
