Abstract

Due to the obstruction of the biliopancreatic duct, the ERCP has been facing a need for evolution. As a result, the healthcare personnel/staff involved, has been led to maintain a continuous updating of their knowledge. This article arises from the need to display in a clear and accurate manner the requirements and functions of nurse caring within the ERCP procedure. Attempts have been made to widely illustrate what this procedure involves, together with a detailed description of possible complications and critical moments. It has also, we aimed at to expose in a precise manner the activities that the health care personnel should take into consideration before, during and after the procedure. ERCP is not only a diagnostic technique, it is also a therapeutic one. This implies the need for a a highly qualified healthcare personnel, properly trained in this procedure. Giving relevance to this specialization together with a perfect harmony with the endoscopist, will give as a result the outstanding quality of the Care sector.
